Book of the new sun cover study - Bruce Pennington

After reading the first volume from "Book of the New sun" by Gene Wolfe titled "shadow of the torturer, I was inspired by the cover (1980-1983) by Bruce Pennington so much I NEEDED to do a study on it!

What I aimed to gain from this study was to understand the color, composition and overall painterly texture which I believe has been missing from my work for the past few years. Although on a technical level I have improved, my approach has felt more sterile and wish to return to adding a little bit of "mess" to my newer pieces.

Also I'd highly recommend reading these! If you're craving classical dark fantasy from the good ol' days, then look no further than Gene Wolfe's Book of the New sun. They're pretty heavy to digest but definitely worth the journey!
